Day 16: Don’t Let Yourself Get Old

Sometimes self-care means going out after 7pm and reminding yourself that just because you're a wife or a mom or an employee or what have you, you can still have fun.

Today’s affirmation: I am young and energetic and full of life.

Last night my BFF invited me to go to a local bookstore with her. I explained that I wouldn’t be able to go until 7:30 and asked if that was okay. She said it was fine because she normally doesn’t go to bed until 9.

She’s 30 and I’m 34 and here I am thinking that 7:30 is too late to go out and she’s thinking she’s a wild child for staying up until 9.

Dude.

I’m aging myself prematurely.

I had to pep talk myself and say, “7:30 is not late. You are not your 4 year old son. You can stay up and out much later than that. This is normal. This is good.”

Too often as a wife and a mom I think that my nights are over once my husband is home from work and my kids are in bed. I act like there’s no more life after that and I may as well put on a Matlock rerun and apply my night cream.

Ladies, there is LIFE after 7:30. Go out in the dark. Laugh. Go to a bookstore. Go to the movies. Do something.

But don’t think that just because you have kids you can’t have fun after 6pm.
